Total Summer School 2011

How does a week in Paris sound to you?
Are you a student in a school of higher education? Does the energy sector interest you? Are you interested in understanding energy issues? Then why not join us at the Total Summer School.

Each year we invite a hundred students from all over the world to spend a week thinking about and discussing energy issues. The summer school is also a chance to meet recruiters and learn about career opportunities, professional disciplines and internships at Total.

In 2011, Université Total is inviting around 120 students from around the world to take part in a weeklong summer school session to analyze and discuss major energy issues and challenges, alongside key managers and a number of experts from science, research and business.

The working language is English.

The Total Summer School is intended for students who are about to start their final year of study before graduation at the top schools, universities and educational institutions in our main partner countries.

Participants will focus on several key issues and challenges facing international oil and chemical companies such as:

- Economic: Is the global tension between energy supply and demand here to stay?
- Geopolitical: What are the main causes of uncertainty and tension and how can they be alleviated?
- Energy diversification: Are there credible, competitive alternatives to finite resources, in particular in the transportation segment?
- Environment: What strategies can be deployed to combat global warming?
- Social and managerial responsibility: How can our ethical and managerial values be made compatible with the wide diversity of countries, people and situations?

These topics will be addressed at round table discussions, presentations and workshops. In smaller workshops, students will be able to contribute actively to the program, share ideas, express their views and ask questions about the main topics of the seminar.

During the Summer School, students will be able to take advantage of cultural opportunities in the Paris area.

Université Total and the Total subsidiaries taking part in the Summer School are financing transportation, accommodation and meals for the participating students.

Petroleum Technology Development Fund(PTDF) 2011/2012 Scholarship Scheme

Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) has earned quite a reputation over the years. This programme is designed to attain the long-term capacity requirements of the oil and gas industry through training of young Nigerians in various fields of Engineering, Geological Sciences, Environmental and Energy Studies both at the master’s and doctoral levels. Beneficiaries are expected to fit into the oil and gas industry and/or the academia and contribute meaningfully to development of the sector. Sponsorship under the OSS is for Master’s and Doctoral Degree programmes in UK universities

2011/2012 PTDF SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME In pursuit of its mandate the PTDF is inviting applications for its MSc and PhD Scholarships as well as Undergraduate, under the PTDF scholarship scheme. Scholarships will be awarded for studies in areas listed below, in the United Kingdom and upgraded Universities in Nigeria for the 2011/2012 session. However,its important to note that the undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only.

Application forms can be accessed online using an ATM card or through purchase of a scratch card from designated major branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc and Skye Bank Plc in all state capitals and FCT in Nigeria, upon the payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). Instructions on how to access the form online is clearly stated on the backside of the cards.

PTDF hereby wishes to inform all its esteemed applicants that its Overseas Scholarship Scheme was instituted as a short term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities effectively handle the onerous task of grooming qualitative professionals in the oil and gas related disciplines. With the numerous upgrade programmes executed by the Fund in some Federal Universities in Nigeria, the Fund intends to shift emphasis to training Nigerians in-country from next session. Exploration Geologist Job

A major player within the global energy market is recruiting an Exploration Geologist for their Nigerian business.

In this role, the candidate will develop a detailed understanding of the regional geology, interpret seismic, well log, outcrop and other regional geological data required for in-depth geological and geophysical analysis of the company’s assets and new venture opportunities.

Responsibilites
  • Produce regional geological maps, prospect generation and evaluation, including interpretation of 2D/3D seismic data to produce maps, and maturation of these prospects to AFE status for drilling.
  • Identify new plays, opportunities and exploration concepts, grounded by producing field analogs.
  • Integrate play analysis and play prosecution into the evaluation and exploration of a project.
  • Perform Basin modeling
  • Run volumetrics on leads, prospects and existing discoveries
Requirements
  • Degree in Geology, Petroleum Engineering or its equivalent
  • 6-10 Years experience in evaluation of interpretation of well log and other geological data
  • Working knowledge of other subsurface disciplines including seismic techniques and reservoir engineering
  • Experience of planning and monitoring of exploration drilling would be an advantage
